WHAT: “Based on the story by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, this six-person dance thriller is brought to life through a fusion of visceral choreography and classic text that ‘will take your breath away’ **** (TheFrontRowCenter.com). While undergoing treatment for “female hysteria”, Jane is confined to a room of yellow wallpaper. As the weeks pass, the wallpaper takes on a horrifying life of its own. Jane becomes convinced that there are women trapped within the walls, and that it is up to her to set them free.”

Is this your first time to Edinburgh?
Yes, this is our first time at EdFringe but our second fringe festival (the first being NYC Fringe in 2018)! We’ve been striving for Edinburgh as a way to internationally share our adaptation of a story still resonating in English classes around the world, even over a century after its publication. We are especially eager to connect with artists & audiences from all backgrounds using a familiar story delivered through a new movement language.
What are the big things you’ve learned since 2025 and have you absorbed any of the lessons yet?
To prepare for Edinburgh, we’ve done significant research on UK theatre with assistance from Lily of Tin Pony PR which has provided surprising insight on healthier artistic relationships. Due to dramatic cuts to arts funding and basic human rights in the US, we’ve been fighting an uphill battle from day one to gather the resources to bring this piece to life. The culminating production start to feel like a battle cry of defiance – “WE ARE HERE!”
While there is a degree of this battle in every country, the UK have been a vital reminder that support for the arts and basic welfare CAN exist in a more sustainable capacity. This second wind inspires us to continue this production with appreciation for our gritty origins while finally having some distance to metabolize the trauma that inspired the original piece.
Tell us about your show.
We are a sister duo – Caitlin & Megan Ort – who have been developing this piece for 10 years with notable productions at the NYC Fringe in 2018, Gibney Dance Center in 2025, and now finally Edinburgh Fringe (& hopefully a UK/US tour or Off-Broadway production in the near future).
The piece was born at a laundromat in 2016 when Caitlin stumbled across The Yellow Wallpaper in a short story collection while killing time. Caitlin was fresh off of a toxic relationship & battling mounting fears of the impact from Trump’s first presidential term. Though her world was actively collapsing, Caitlin suddenly felt seen in a real woman’s story from over a century ago. Struck by inspiration to adapt it as a dance play, she tapped me in as a collaborator & we’ve been developing and producing it ourselves ever since. We’ve gathered many talented friends over the years with many of them joining us for EdFringe, affirming the community that protagonist Jane & 2016-Caitlin so desperately lacked.
What should your audience see at the festivals after they’ve seen your show?
Sasha Graham’s Ghost Stories & Tarot – another story about spooky women fighting demons while chasing their dreams? ABSOLUTELY.
Circa: Wolf – we love the similarly savage movement in pursuit of catharsis, just like the women in our wallpaper
